Toys are a huge part of the development of babies and toddlers, and are great ways for parents to introduce color, shapes, and creativity into a child’s day. That is why we love toys like Magformers, Magna-Tiles & Picasso Tiles. These toys are similar in what they are and what they do, but offer different levels of durability and creation for kids. Parents want a product that is safe, packs away neatly, and offers us a little fun as well!
What parents love about these toys is that they offer lots of ways for kids to play, and will test the limits of their imagination as they can build towers, colorful tables, castles, and all sorts of other structures. There are also items like race cars and trains that your kids can incorporate into these toys to make play time that much more exciting.
Distinguishing between Magformers, Magna-Tiles & Picasso Tiles comes down to a few key characteristics: price, durability, features, and quality. We look at each brand and rank each characteristic, determining which is best between these similar toys.
Picasso Tiles Review
The first thing you’ll notice is that the price tag is about half of Magformers and Magna-Tiles. While you might expect a dip in quality, that simply isn’t the case with Picasso Tiles, and these tiles will even mix and match with Magformers and Magna-Tiles. Some older reviews seem to say that Picasso Tiles aren’t to the same level as those other brands, but the set we got looks nearly identical and we can’t tell the difference between these and Magna-Tiles or Magformers.
Magformers Review
It should be noted that each of these brands all come in a variety of packages, ranging from small sets to huge options with all the bells and whistles.
We love Magformers for the fact that they look great, are easy to put together and break down, and store easily. Like Magna-Tiles and Picasso Tiles, these tiles are STEM toys, which means they promote critical thinking in areas like science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. If you’re looking for a variety of products, Magformers probably has the widest range of sets that will encourage your child’s imagination.
Magna-Tiles Review
Magna-Tiles probably have the strongest magnets of the three brands we tested, making them great for older kids who want to build bigger and bigger towers. I think if your child would want to use his or her Magna-Tiles for years, and would want to add to their collection over time, this is probably your best bet if you don’t mind the steeper price tag. These tiles are extremely durable and easy to pack away or leave up in your childs room.
Magformers vs Magna-Tiles vs Picasso Tiles: Winner
The best brand based on all four characteristics is Picasso Tiles. The price simply pushes these STEM toys to the top since you don’t suffer any qualify or safety defects. You can also mix and match these with other sets, which is great when grandparents end up getting them a different brand (happens all the time!).
